The Gove Peninsula Futures Reference Group holds Community Update sessions twice yearly to inform residents, businesses and service providers about the work underway to support a positive transition to a post-mining future on the Gove Peninsula.
Gove Futures Community Updates
A Gove Futures Community Update session was presented at the Gove Peninsula Surf Life Saving Club in Nhulunbuy on 3 December by members of the Gove Peninsula Futures Reference Group. Attendees heard about key initiatives, including collaborative projects and long-term planning efforts. The session reinforced the group’s commitment and role as a driving force behind positive change, ensuring that the Gove Peninsula remains a vibrant and resilient place to live, work, and thrive post cessation of mining.

Gove Futures Community Updates
Gove Futures Community Update sessions were presented at the Walkabout Lodge on 6 and 13 of March 2024 by members of the Gove Peninsula Futures Reference Group. These Community Updates provided information on the ongoing work of the Gove Peninsula Futures Reference Group for 2024, including the release of the Gove Mine Closure Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SEIA) and results from the Gove Futures Choice Model Survey conducted in late 2023.

Gove Futures Business Engagement Workshop
On Monday 23 October 2023, the Gove Peninsula Futures Reference Group facilitated a workshop aimed at addressing the needs of local businesses in navigating the transition to a post-mining future. The workshop’s primary objective was twofold: to identify critical questions concerning the transition and to establish effective communication channels between the Reference Group and the business community.
The workshop comprised 3 key components:
- Question generation
- Reference Group updates
- Question refinement
Following the workshop, the Reference Group compiled a document addressing a curated selection of prioritised questions, aiming to provide businesses with essential information for decision-making during the transition.
